Fishing

Fly fishing in Montana is the stuff of dreams, and we couldn’t be in a better location to take advantage.

Dry fly fishing, streamers, nymphs to hoppers — the fisheries within a day’s drive of the Madison Valley have a style of fly fishing that you’ll enjoy, no doubt.

"There’s no denying the facts. World class destination waters and a team of friendly and patient guides assure a high-quality fishing experience is in store for you."

The world famous "miracle mile" of the Madison River runs right through our property, and guided float trips on what some would call the world’s most famous trout river are certainly a main focus at Madison Double R. This stupendous river boasts numerous stretches as its courses from Yellowstone Park down to the headwaters of the Missouri, which gives our clients an amazing mix of fly fishing.

We're extra fortunate to be within easy striking distance to several more of the best wild trout rivers in the country; the lower Big Hole offers excellent fishing for browns and rainbows, along with a wild and remote setting and always the chance to see wildlife like moose and eagles. The Jefferson River is nearby as well, with its undercut banks and always surprisingly strong brown trout.

Fishing the smaller Ruby River can make for a fun day and trips to explore the waters in and around Yellowstone Park makes for an unforgettable experience. If you want to try stillwater fly fishing, Hebgen and Ennis lakes offer potential for huge fish, as well as (when the conditions are right) tremendously fun 'gulper' fishing for surface-cruising trout.

We also have parternships with outfitters who can take our guests to Idaho to fish the fabled Henry's Fork (of the Snake) and Henry's Lake, as well as into the Bear Trap Canyon Wilderness Area of the Madison.

If you'd like to brush up on your casting skills, our stocked ponds are a great place to start. And finally, if you'd like to combine fly fishing with an adventure, horseback trips up to high mountain lakes and streams can be a supremely memorable experience.

But this wealth of world-class trout fisheries wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable without guides who know them. The Madison Double R guides are experts at knowing the water, knowing the fish, and being sensitive to our clients’ needs. Novice anglers will get patient casting lessons, while expert fly fishers will find their guide can satisfy their high angling expectations.

And most importantly, our guides are fun to spend the day with, ensuring a great day on the water.
